WHICH LIFERAFT DO I NEED?

These regulations are from the finnish transport and communications agency and can be different in other countrys,

All life-saving equipment and all life-saving devices on ships, except life rafts which
meets the requirements of the ISO 9650-1 standard, rescue suits that meet the requirements of the standard
the ISO 15027-1 and ISO 15027-2 as well as flotation devices, must be steering wheel marked.
If a vessel carries extra life-saving equipment, it must also be marked on the steering wheel and comply
the requirements of this regulation.

 

Passenger ships

Area III – Minimum SOLAS Liferaft + SOLAS B PACK emergency package
– 500 GT or more: Liferafts and lifeboats with a capacity together of 125% of maximum allowed people onboard
– 150 GT or more but bellow 500 GT: Liferafts with a capacity of 125 % of maximum allowed people onboard
– 24 Meter or more and bellow 150 GT: Liferafts with a capacity of 125 % of maximum allowed people onboard
– Below 24 meter and below 150 GT: Liferafts with a capacity of 110% of maximum people allowed onboard

Area II – Minimum NON-SOLAS (HCS 2000) + minimum emergency package type ´HSC PACK´
– 500 GT or more: Liferafts with a capacity of 125% of the maximum people allowed on board
– 150 GT or more but bellow 500 GT: Liferafts with a capacity of 125% of the maximum people allowed on board
– 24 Meter or more and bellow 150 GT: Liferafts with a capacity of 125% of the maximum people allowed on board
– Below 24 meter and below 150 GT: Liferafts with a capacity of 110% of maximum people allowed onboard

Area I – Minimum NON-SOLAS (HCS 2000) + minimum emergency package type ´HSC PACK´
– 500 GT or more: Liferafts with a capacity of 110% of the maximum people allowed on board
– 150 GT or more but bellow 500 GT: Liferafts with a capacity of 110% of the maximum people allowed on board
– 24 Meter or more and bellow 150 GT: Liferafts with a capacity of 110% of the maximum people allowed on board
– Below 24 meter and below 150 GT: Liferafts with a capacity of 110% of maximum people allowed onboard

 

Cargo ships & commercial boats

Including barge with social facilities, oil-, chemical- and gas carrier in area III, II and I

Area III – Minimum SOLAS Liferaft + SOLAS B PACK emergency package
– 500 GT or more: Liferafts that on each side have the capacity for the maximum people allowed onboard
– 150 GT or more but bellow 500 GT: Liferafts with a capacity of maximum people onboard. If it can be a sruggle to launch the rafts from both side you will need Liferafts that on each side have the capacity for the maximum people allowed onboard
– 24 Meter or more and bellow 150 GT: Liferafts with a capacity of maximum persons allowed onboard
– Below 24 meter and below 150 GT: Liferafts with a capacity of maximum persons allowed onboard

Area II – Minimum ISO 9650-1 standard Liferaft
– 500 GT or more: Liferafts that on each side have the capacity for the maximum people allowed onboard
– 150 GT or more but bellow 500 GT: Liferafts with a capacity of maximum people onboard
– 24 Meter or more and bellow 150 GT: Liferafts with a capacity of maximum persons allowed onboard
– Below 24 meter and below 150 GT: Liferafts with a capacity of maximum persons allowed onboard

Area I – Minimum ISO 9650-1 standard Liferaft
– 500 GT or more: Liferafts with a capacity of 110% of maximum people allowed onboard
– 150 GT or more but bellow 500 GT: Liferafts with a capacity of maximum people onboard
– 24 Meter or more and bellow 150 GT: Liferafts with a capacity of maximum persons allowed onboard
– Below 24 meter and below 150 GT: Liferafts with a capacity of maximum persons allowed onboard

Area III – Minimum SOLAS Liferaft + SOLAS B PACK emergency package
Area II – Minimum NON-SOLAS (HCS 2000) + minimum emergency package type ´HSC PACK´
Area I – Minimum ISO 9650-1 standard Liferaft
Vessel class III – Liferafts with a capacity of 200% of maximum people allowed onboard
Vessel class II – Liferafts with a capacity of maximum persons allowed onboard
Vessel class I – Liferafts with a capacity of maximum persons allowed onboard

 

Pleasure boats and hovercrafts

Domestic cabotage – Minimum ISO 9650-1 standard liferaft + ISO 9650-1 Pack 2
Area III – Liferafts with a capacity of maximum persons allowed onboard
Area II – Liferafts with a capacity of maximum persons allowed onboard
Area I – Liferafts with a capacity of maximum persons allowed onboard
